Focus During Running: Why the PAZE Loop Reduces Mental Distraction
When running, not only your body but also your mind is crucial. A study published in the journal Psychology of Sport & Exercise examined 59 experienced runners in a real outdoor setting. Participants ran at different intensities and with various attentional focuses, for example, on breathing, the environment, or without a specific focus. Heart rate, speed, and subjective perception were measured, among other things.
The results show: Attention plays an important role in running. The study describes that focus during endurance activities such as running, cycling, or rowing can influence performance, perceived effort, and the personal training experience. Especially with increasing intensity, it becomes more challenging to consciously control one's focus.
This is precisely where the PAZE Loop comes in.
If your phone rattles while running, your keys dig in, or you constantly check if everything is still there, an additional mental task arises. Your mind is no longer fully on the run, but on your belongings.
The study also showed that at moderate exertion, the heart rate in the control condition was lower than with the predefined focus tasks. The researchers suspect that it can cost additional energy to simultaneously control one's effort and follow an unfamiliar attention task.
For your training, this means: The fewer unnecessary things you have to control while moving, the easier your focus can stay where it belongs: on your rhythm, your breathing, and your movement.
The PAZE Loop was developed to reduce precisely these small distractions. As a practical running belt for your phone, keys, card, and energy gels, it keeps your essentials secure, close, and comfortable on your body. This way, you have to think less about your belongings while running and can concentrate better on your training.
